Cal Poly Open House 2018
Cal Poly’s Annual Open House welcomes new students, their families, and the San Luis Obispo community to experience life as a Mustang. The 2018 Open House is a unique opportunity for parents and students to hear from campus leaders, meet with faculty, engage with other prospective students, and learn about all that Cal Poly has to offer.
Thursday, April 12th: Club Preview Night
6pm-9pm | Farmers’ Market
Thursday evening’s Preview Night showcases Cal Poly’s culture as student clubs and organizations take over Broad Street. This is a great opportunity for prospective students to learn about all the ways to get involved on campus. While downtown, be sure to stop by the famous San Luis Obispo Farmers’ Market on Higuera Street and experience Downtown San Luis Obispo’s vivacious local culture.
Friday, April 13th: Admitted Students’ Preview Day
8am-12pm | Check-In
Open House check-in begins Friday morning on Mott Lawn, followed by the official University Welcome that will take place in the Recreation Center’s Main Gym. Be sure to bring a digital or printed copy of your ticket.
8am-1pm | Prospective Student Resource Fair
The Resource Fair is an informational event that allows prospective students and supporters the opportunity to engage with a variety of campus resources and find out what they can expect as an incoming Mustang.
9am-9:45am | University Welcome 1
The first University Welcome Event, taking place in the Recreation Center’s Main Gym, invites admitted students and supporters from the following colleges to interact and learn more about Cal Poly:
- College of Agriculture Food & Environmental Sciences
- College of Architecture & Environmental Design
- Orfalea College of Business
10:30am-11:15am | University Welcome 2
The second University Welcome Event will also be held in the Recreation Center’s Main Gym, and is intended for admitted students and supporters from the following colleges:
- College of Engineering
- College of Liberal Arts
- College of Science & Mathematics
7:30pm-10pm | Friday Nite Invite
Friday Nite Invite is an event held in the University Union Plaza for prospective Cal Poly students to meet one another and have some fun. This is a great opportunity to connect while enjoying activities like bowling, music, games, club booths, and more.
8pm-9pm | Transfer Mixer
Potential transfer students are invited to meet in Room 220 of the University Union to mingle, chat and interact with an informational panel over food and drinks.
7:30-10pm | Coffee House
While prospective students are attending the Friday Nite Invite, the Chumash Auditorium will host a special event for parents and supporters. At Coffee House, parents can talk with current students from each of Cal Poly’s colleges while enjoying a cup of local BlackHorse Coffee. There will also be speakers from Administration as well as Parent & Family Programs.
Saturday, April 14th: Mustang Legacy Celebration
9am-10am | Poly Royal Parade
On Saturday morning, various clubs, groups, and organizations will present the Poly Royal Parade on Perimeter Road. The parade is a showcase of all things Cal Poly, where participants share handmade floats and signs that celebrate the school and its opportunities.
10am-10:30am | Opening Ceremonies
Opening Ceremonies will be held on Dexter Lawn where Cal Poly speakers will address admitted students and their families. The ceremonies will also honor the Poly Royal Parade Grand Marshals and the Open House Committee.
10am-3pm | Campus Showcase
Over 200 clubs will be represented at the Lower Campus with booths, food, activities, and more. Come to learn more about Cal Poly’s clubs and organizations and how to get involved.
10am-2:30pm | Poly Royal Stage
The Poly Royal Stage showcases Cal Poly’s talented performers. Enjoy singing acts, dance teams, and other various forms of entertainment with fellow future Mustangs.
Cal Poly’s Open House is a great time to explore the city of San Luis Obispo and discover why it is consistently rated among the happiest cities in the United States. In order to take full advantage of your visit, take time to see some SLO favorites like Bubblegum Alley, enjoy the local cuisine, and head over to at least one of the local beaches. After experiencing all that SLO has to offer, you’ll understand why students travel from around the globe to study, work, and live here.
